Thoughts On Haiku

Spring of 2022 hit me like a ton of creative bricks. What started out as a small itch to make a haiku or two, quickly snowballed into an avalanche of obsessive poetry writing. In about the span of a month I wrote over 150 haikus. It was a deeply healing & cathartic time that I found myself in. Truly I learned so much about myself through just that one practice alone! I highly recommend to anyone who reads this to try your hand at haiku. The act of condensing a thought, memory, or emotion into a 3 line, 5-7-5 syllable format, really requires you to be honest and decisive with your words. I’ve found it to be a beautiful conduit for radical honesty, introspection, and expression.
